The Lying Life of Adults is a television series adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s 2019 coming-of-age novel of the same name. Set in Naples in the 1990s, the six-episode Netflix series follows the adventures of Giovanna, who leaves the suburbs to meet her estranged aunt in the city.

The Lost Daughter is a film adaptation of the 2008 novel of the same name by Elena Ferrante. Directed and written by Maggie Gyllenhaal, the cast includes Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Dakota Johnson, Ed Harris, and Peter Sarsgaard.

My Brilliant Friend (Europa Editions, 2012), the first novel in the Neapolitan Quartet by Elena Ferrante, translated from the Italian by Ann Goldstein, has been adapted into HBO’s first foreign-language series. Directed by Saverio Costanzo, the eight-episode miniseries stars Elisa Del Genio, Gaia Girace, Margherita Mazzucco, and Ludovica Nasti.

Jhumpa Lahiri talks with Ann Goldstein, translator of Elena Ferrante's novels, about Ferrante, literature, translation, and writing at the Center for Jewish History. Lahiri, who is featured in the the March/April issue of Poets & Writers Magazine, has a new memoir, In Other Words (Knopf, 2016), which is translated from the Italian by Goldstein.
