Editorial Focus

The OS is most interested in supporting those who are interested in supporting each other and the community: we care less about your pedigree and more about your energy. We care that your voice is uniquely yours and will never publish derivative, trendy work—we’d rather take a risk on an unknown than publish more of the same from a star. We understand the creative impulse as a political and social action, and publishing as a tool in a larger fight to resist the top-down writing of history. Ideally, you are already engaged in your work in a way that understands this—or you’d like to be.

Tips From the Editor

Please do be familiar with the Operating System's mission and previous works! Check out our online platform, poke around our community, read and explore. Submissions that work best for us are from people who specifically seek the sort of press we are -- not those mass submitting to a huge number of presses. That said - if you feel you're a fit, and the OS speaks to you, we'll find a way to make it work - even if it means working together on your manuscript for a year or more. We love big here - we want you to feel supported and empowered. But you've got to really show up. Consider publishing online via our platform / in one of our ongoing series as well!
