Editorial Focus

Black Hill Press is a publishing collective of a growing family of writers and artists dedicated to the novella—a distinctive literary form that offers the focus of a short story and the scope of a novel. We believe a great story is never defined by its length. Our independent press produces uniquely curated collections of Contemporary American Novellas. Books are available in both print and digital formats, online and in your local bookstore, library, and more. We aim to find new talent through traditional submissions and our Summer Writing Project in conjunction with JukePop Serials.

Tips From the Editor

Please Do: Send us unpublished novellas. Be an established writer interested in working on new projects. Approach us with connections to new talents. Send us the workings of a new short-length project. Be inspired to collaborate with artists to make a collective work.

Please Don’t: Send us already published works or works considerably longer than standard novella length. Send us anthologies of your published or unpublished works. Send us chapbooks or non-prose works.

Tips: Visit our website to see our current collection and family of authors, editors and artists. Connect with us on social media and join the discussion of novellas and the author in the 21st century.
