Editorial Focus

Atticus Books is a genre-busting literary press based in the New York City metropolitan area. Our purpose on earth is to help lead independent publishing into a new era of book and content creation. Our work is inspired by the tradition of offbeat literary dynamos such as New Directions, Grove, and Black Sparrow Press.

Tips From the Editor

We welcome unsolicited manuscript submissions and book proposals for print publication. In addition, we encourage writers to submit short stories, poems, and literary essays for potential publication in our weekly online journal, Atticus Review. We prefer this latter approach as a starting point because it’s beneficial for us to get acquainted with your shorter work. For example, on our first date, we wouldn’t mind experiencing a chapter excerpt or a caffeine-induced poem or short story. Then, if we both like what we see, we can advance to the next stage, with the honorable intention of pursuing a more serious relationship, such as the lifelong commitment of the beloved and betrothed, published novel.
