The Department of English at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, seeks applicants with a Ph.D. in Composition & Rhetoric to join our vibrant, diverse community. We invite innovative thinkers with demonstrated interest in pedagogies of difference and multi-modality to help us enhance a “student-ready” first-year writing program and help shape our emergent curriculum at the intersection of composition & rhetoric, civic engagement, and public advocacy. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to broad liberal arts and interdisciplinary education, excellent teaching skills, and an inclusive approach that reflects a willingness to welcome, engage and support diverse students in a rapidly-changing urban campus. Candidates should be able to teach introductory and advanced courses in composition theory and pedagogy and will have opportunities to teach throughout our integrative curriculum based on their expertise and interest. Hamline faculty have a 6-course annual teaching load with a one-course release in the first year for professional development and a semester release pre-tenure pending successful third-year review.
Hamline University resides in the Midway neighborhood [2], centrally located in the culturally rich Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area. The English Department [3], part of Hamline’s College of Liberal Arts, offers an integrative major and distinctive concentrations in literature & cultural studies, professional communication & rhetoric, and creative writing. The Department contributes to and helps administer collaborations with related programs including Digital Media Arts, Creative Writing Programs, Communication Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, Environmental Studies, and Business. The English Department also administers our expanding First-Year Writing program, which offers classes and support to undergraduate students across the University, and is a vital partner in student transition and success efforts for all First Year Experiences.
