Editorial Focus

The New Engagement endeavors a novel approach to discovering, introducing, and showcasing writers, artists, and filmmakers who are underrepresented (POC, LGBTQ) while encouraging and supporting their social-consciousness. Our $5 reading fee automatically enters writers (of poetry and fiction) into our James Baldwin Literature Prize, which awards $1,000 to a single winner. All contest entries are also evaluated for general placement in our online and print journal, as well. Our first print journal is set for release in early 2017. Our online version was founded in July 2016.

Tips From the Editor

Please submit work that reflects your best effort, and that isn't afraid to experiment and make bold pronouncements. We are especially keen on material that plays with form and delves complex themes.
