Editorial Focus
We publish interesting fiction, poetry, essays, and multimedia work from all over the world. However, preference is given to writers, artists, and subject matter with some connection to the South. We are particularly interested in work that uses conventions of traditional genres in new and interesting ways.
Tips From the Editor
We don't want "traditional" Southern lit. We want literary and experimental work that touches on themes of interest to Southerners. Interpret that however you like, but DON'T assume this limits you to talking about trailers, hunting/fishing, fried food, and race relations. In fact, avoid talking about those things unless you have something really original to say about them. We get a lot more poetry submissions than fiction. Fiction has a better shot at being selected simply because it's more in demand. It should go without saying, but please read our submission guidelines, and use our online submission tracker. Also, please include a bio statement in your cover letter.
