Editorial Focus
Rivet publishes writing that breaks from the mainstream to surprise, challenge, and delight. Each issue brings together poetry, fiction, and nonfiction that test the boundaries of form and content--a surrealist sestina followed by a lyric essay on multiracial identity then a flash fiction set in humanity’s far future--the intersections as intriguing as the works themselves. Rivet writers explore their craft fearlessly and thoughtfully, and our editors are dedicated to providing them with a professional venue for publishing experimental work.
Tips From the Editor
We are interested in: surreal, fabulist, and remix aesthetics; political and controversial topics; hybrid and multimedia things that play well online; literary takes on popular genres; reviews of books/media and interviews of people that would be of interest to our audience. We are not interested in: shock value alone; middle class ennui. Most of all, surprise us with something we’ve never seen before, that moves and reveals. We believe in the author-editor relationship, and we work with each writer to fully realize their vision. If that’s something you are as excited about as we are, then we want to read your work.
