Tips From the Editor

Issue #3 Theme: SECRET IDENTITIES

For this third issue of kerning, we’re looking for writing that delves into what we conceal, obstruct, or obscure from view—whether it's by necessity, choice, or circumstance—and whether we're hiding from ourselves or the world. What happens when we hide bits and pieces of ourselves, how are our lives altered or limited when we obscure a clear view to our true self? What does it feel like to live inside a secret? Do the veils we create allow new or alternative perspectives to emerge? What grows or emerges out of the dissonance between one identity and another? And what might happen when we've been wearing a mask and remove it to reveal our true identity?
