Editorial Focus

The Flexible Persona is an independent magazine of writing that publishes both online and biannual print issues.

We read for engaging, character-driven fiction in which something happens. Show us the story. We are open to all genres.

We crave creative nonfiction with a clear narration that explores both the large and the small of what it means to be human.

We also read for sharp-edged poetry.

Our annual flash fiction contest opens for entries from mid-October to mid-December, with winners and finalists announced in mid-January.

Tips From the Editor

Please read your story aloud before submitting. This will help you avoid the syntactical problems that are often revealed through an oral reading. We do not charge a reading fee for mailed submissions. However, if you wish to submit electronically, there is a fee associated to alleviate the costs of our online submission manager.
