Hour 1:

Join this ongoing Monday drop-in writing group if you are tarot curious or a tarot lover and if you have wanted to either start or deepen your journaling practice. Journaling keeps us connected to a regular rhythm of listening to our hearts and minds. When you add tarot to that practice as a source of inspiration, you enter a vivid landscape of images, symbols, depicted scenarios, people cards, and archetypal energies. Because every tarot deck also uses the four elements as a structural device, you have the opportunity to consider how you love (the cups cards), how you express yourself creatively (the fire cards), how you develop your physical prowess or manifest wealth (the earth cards), and how you use your mind, including your writing skills (the air cards). And you can point the arrow of your journaling inquiry using the tarot back into the past (experiences you’ve already lived in relation to the tarot card) or into the present (what you see in your present life that mirrors this card) or even peek into the future (what you wish or intuit this card to be saying about tomorrow’s dreams for your life).

This is a show up, write, and share class in a nurturing and heart-centered environment. We will move through the tarot deck one card per week. No prior experience with the tarot necessary; all level of writing welcome. You may bring your own tarot deck, though the instructor will provide examples from a variety of decks (including Rider Waite Smith, Voyager collage, Inner Child, Roots of Asia, Motherpeace, Thoth, Daughters of the Moon, Basque, Cats, Wild Unknown, and more).

Tarot Card Creation: A Heart’s Compass Approach (hour 2):

Mondays, 1-2 p.m. Starting March 16, 2020

This optional second hour is dedicated for a series of writing exercises designed to help you arrive at your own symbols for the creation of your own tarot cards. This is a very gentle approach as we will only be making one card per ten weeks of tarot journaling (Ace of Cups, Ace of Disks, Ace of Wands, Ace of Swords). We dive deep in this second hour as we create individual tarot timelines to gain perspective on past and present lived experiences of the suit under study from the Ace to the Ten card.  The creation of your tarot timeline prepares you to extend your inquiry to seek out your personal symbols and to begin drafting up your Ace of Cups card with an eye towards the future (what you wish to bring into focus for yourself).  You are encouraged to work in the artform of your choice (sketch, photograph, color pencil, collage, watercolor, or even three-dimensional representations such as clay).

Fee for the second hour is also $10, drop in, no need to pre-register. Students are responsible for bringing their own art supplies.
