From Elizabeth Bishop to Audre Lorde to Carl Phillips, LGBT+ poets have played a vital and undeniable role in shaping and elevating American literature. The Poetry Society of New York plans to promote this legacy with two Pride Month Micro-Residencies in June lead by writers Emma Sheinbaum and C.J. Strauss at the Society’s program partner, the Books Are Magic shop in Brooklyn, New York.
Sheinbaum, the founder & co-editor of quarterly literary journal A VELVET GIANT, will hold her residency on June 15th and 16th from noon to 4 p.m. The Poetry Society of New York designed the Micro-Residency program to support literature by giving writers time to work in stimulating environments and the public a glimpse into the writing process.
