Poetry workshop with Lynne Thompson Title: To Submit or Not, and Where, and When

02/21/2026 - 11:00am to 1:00pm
Poetry
Workshop

This workshop will assist attendees in navigating the sometimes confusing world of literary submissions, primarily for single or groups of poems and, tangentially, chapbook or full-length poetry manuscripts. Tips and suggestions for maintaining and organizing your work for submission as well as resources to use to find appropriate submission sites will be offered, with some of the convener’s personal experiences added to the mix! There will be some discussion about giving readings and engaging in other activities as a way to tap into markets that could be receptive to publishing your poems. The session will be interactive and participants will be encouraged to ask questions.

About the workshop facilitator: Lynne Thompson served as Los Angeles’s 4th Poet Laureate and is the author of four collections of poetry including, most recently, Blue on a Blue Palette (BOA Editions, 2024).

The workshop is free and open to the public – all ages and backgrounds are welcome. Please bring a notebook and a pen if you can; otherwise, we will provide paper and writing utensils for you. Workshop participants are invited to share their work at our January 28 open mic.
