“Dear Diary: Memoir as Magic in These Trying Times” is a writing workshop that focuses on documenting our stories in the current moment.

Our stories matter.

And it is paramount that we document our stories; our experiences; and our hardships, hope and healing- especially in this moment when it feels like the world is on fire.

In this three-part writing workshop educator, writer and cultural critic Josie Pickens will guide participants through journal writing processes that will help them contemplate the importance of telling/recording personal stories, how they can write about both grief and gratitude in this moment, and how they can document their hopes for change as they address a number of national and global social justice issues.

Each workshop will begin with a conversation between Pickens and an expert: a writer who will provide guidance on writing memoir, a counselor who will help participants understand how to process feelings of both grief and gratitude in this moment, and a social justice advocate who will discuss the importance of thinking critically (and imaginatively) about the world we live in as they journey towards change.

All or welcomed to attend and participate. These workshops will center the voices and narratives of BIPOC, queer folks, folks living with disabilities and other folks whose identities exist on the margins.

***These events are supported in part by Poets & Writers, thanks to a grant from the Hearst Foundations.
