Art in the AM: Clay Family Eastern Glades

01/15/2022 - 9:30am to 11:30am
Poetry/Fiction/Creative Nonfiction

Connect with the moment and the gifts of the natural environment. Mindfulness meets the page with writing prompts that help us engage with our senses as we witness the stillness and subtle movements of Memorial Park’s Eastern Glades. The park circles the 5 ½-acre Hines Lake and its surrounding wetlands, providing trails and boardwalks to explore the aquatic habitat systems of each. During the writing portion, we will find a shady bench to write, and then share our experiences. We recommend you bring a bottle of water, sunscreen, and bug spray. A hat for shade would also be a good idea.

We will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the bathroom pavilion near the parking lot.

Accessibility: Paid parking is located on E Memorial Loop Dr (see map). The parking app, Park Houston (Apple App Store) (Google Play), is easy to use and may be downloaded before you leave. Parking is $1.00 for three hours. Trails are graveled, smooth, and even with plenty of benches spaced frequently. Many portions of the trail are unshaded and the sun gets very hot.
