Multimedia Editor

Location: Remote or Central Arkansas

The Oxford American (OA) is a nonprofit literary organization with a national audience. We are devoted to exploring the cultural complexity of the American South through our quarterly print magazine, digital media, and live events. We have an outstanding opportunity for an experienced editor and project manager who is eager to think creatively about the OA’s future.

At a time when the Oxford American is expanding and evolving, this position also provides an opportunity for someone with strong initiative to contribute to the growth of our audience. Thus, a thorough knowledge of the Oxford American’s aesthetic and mission is a prerequisite.

The Multimedia Editor will have the option to report to the magazine’s main offices in Conway, Arkansas or work remotely. All factors being equal, preference will be given to candidates who can work from our Conway offices three days a week.

Primary Responsibilities

Editorial

  • Assign and manage multimedia projects (web, print, film, audio)

    • Set deadlines for editorial team and track progress

    • Leverage existing grant funding to conceive of and complete projects

  • Serve as Editor’s project manager for the Oxford American’s annual Southern Music Issue (assigning stories, conducting song research, liaising with partners, etc.) 

  • Manage oxfordamerican.org

    • Upload content to CMS and keep home and support pages updated

    • Weekly meetings with web developers and designers to improve UI/UX

    • Select and secure art/photo pairings for digital stories, ads, and press materials

  • Supervise and delegate responsibilities to Oxford American interns

  • Oversee archive digitization

  • Collaborate with Engagement Editor to ensure consistent messaging across web and social spaces

 Business

  • Set goals and metrics for audience engagement and growth

  • Leverage monetization and conversion opportunities

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years in a multimedia editorial role (web, print, film, and/or audio)

  • At least 1 year experience in project management (highly preferred)

  • Excellent organizational and communication abilities

  • Proficiency with CMSes, html, and analytics tools

  • Proficiency with InDesign, Photoshop, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office

  • Track record of audience/traffic growth

Salary: $45,000
