The American Scholar

Editorial Assistant

The American Scholar, the quarterly magazine of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, is seeking candidates for the part-time position of editorial assistant, with duties related to our print magazine, our website, and our social media efforts. The primary responsibilities will be fact checking articles for the magazine, assisting with photo research, contributing to short standing departments on the website, assisting with social media outreach, and proofing. Because we have a small staff, the editorial assistant will be exposed to all aspects of producing the magazine and website. We are looking for a person with excellent verbal skills, journalistic or editing experience at the college level, a facility with social media, and an eagerness to pitch in. Working onsite in our offices at Dupont Circle in Washington, once pandemic restrictions are lifted, is a requirement. The compensation is $20 an hour for not more than 20 hours a week.

Please send a resume, cover letter, and three writing samples to the attention of Jayne Ross at jross@theamericanscholar.org. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
