Communication and Advancement Coordinator

The College of Arts & Sciences is the University of Louisville’s largest academic unit, with 21 departments that cross the natural and physical sciences, the social and behavioral sciences and the arts and humanities.  Under the direct supervision of the A&S Chief of Staff, the Communication and Advancement Coordinator will implement strategic external communications and promote the engagement of alumni for the A&S Dean’s Office and A&S Development team.  

The primary focus of this position is to tell the A&S story and increase the visibility of A&S by producing timely and strategic content for the College, including individual departments and programs, by designing effective and innovative communications, marketing, publications, website, and social media.   In collaboration with the A&S Development team, this position will organize and coordinate efforts internally to create alumni programs and services designed to foster, strengthen, and increase the relationships and engagement between A&S and its Alumni, friends of the College, and the Dean’s Council. 

All job functions will be performed with a high degree of professionalism, initiative, creativity, dependability, human relations, and collaboration. The ability to communicate effectively and frequently with colleagues and external constituents is a must.

Duties of position

Alumni Relations - Provide support for the College and departments’ fundraising activities, including but not limited to Dean’s Council support, external meeting support, Day of Giving efforts, coordinating events related to alumni initiatives, project, and event follow-up, communicating with top tier prospects and donors.

Communications - In collaboration with the Development office for A&S, support the overall communications strategy for the College.  Duties include but are not limited to feature writing, telling the story of A&S alumni, students, faculty, and staff; Coordinate alumni outreach, Raise Some L! and annual appeal messaging with A&S Development, Annual Fund and Alumni teams.  

Write, develop, and design regular content for social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram/ network engagement/website and email listserv content production, manage and produce written and visual/multimedia content to raise the visibility of A&S.  

This position engages with departments and business units through the campus community to implement a marketing plan designed to grow enrollments and enhance the admissions funnel and institutional brand. 

Stewardship - Support overall stewardship efforts and implement stewardship plan in collaboration with Development and Stewardship teams in Advancement.  These duties include but are not limited to, writing thank you notes, tracking scholarship awards and coordinating personal notes of appreciation; oversee annual scholarship breakfast with stewardees; support annual breakfast for emeritus faculty, while supporting high level stewardship touches. 

Minimum Requirements - Master's degree in a related field and two years of related experience.  Experience may be used on a one-to-one basis to offset the educational requirements.  The university offers market competitive salary and benefits.  Grade EF.  Salary Minimum $47,476.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience in an area such as alumni development, fundraising, communications and/or marketing or non-profit work; demonstrated experience working with web development and online social media and design and publication production; experience in higher education setting is preferred. 

Competencies - Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.  Ability to effectively communicate, conceptualize and interact with different internal and external audiences.  Appropriate knowledge of principles and methods of planning and being part of a comprehensive alumni and fundraising program. Creative ability, self-driven and the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and act with a high degree of integrity, professionalism, creativity, and cooperation with internal and external constituents.

Physical Requirements - Requires working in a typical office environment with sitting and regular use of a computer, the ability to see, hear and use office equipment and occasional standing, stooping, and lifting up to 20 lbs. May require occasional travel between university buildings to meet with others.
