Stories Bookshop + Storytelling Lab is looking for a full-time bookseller and event coordinator to work in our Bergen Street shop and on our off-site events and book fairs. The person in this position will assist with all elements of the daily life of the bookshop—assisting customers, making recommendations, restocking books, setting up for Storytime and more. And, in the event coordinator capacity, the person in this position will assist with all elements of event and workshop planning and executing—liasing with publicists and teachers, book and supply ordering and packing, staffing and sales.
Stories is not your typical bookstore. We are a small children’s bookshop devoted to this golden age of children’s literature we are living in, and to sharing the love of storytelling with the families we support. We truly believe Stories Can Change the World! Our adjacent Storytelling Lab is a lively event space and community hub where we host 11 Storytimes per week, creative classes for kids 0–12, one off workshops, birthday parties, and more. We are a close knit team, looking for a new member to help us grow.
We are looking for a highly organized, detail oriented person with excellent customer service skills, flexibility and a can-do attitude, willingness to work nights and weekends (availability to work one weekend day a week is required), ability to lift boxes of books and move up and down stairs, a friendly and helpful demeanor and a vast enthusiasm for children’s books.
Candidates should have customer service experience, as well as experience working with children, and send a cover letter and CV to firstname.lastname@example.org. In your letter, please tell us why your experience sets you up for success in this role, and your favorite children’s book of the last year.
