The Division of Communication and Creative Media at Champlain College seeks an experienced educator for a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor and Program Director position in the Professional Writing program. The successful candidate must have relevant industry, academic, and administrative experience, be collegial and collaborative, and possess a demonstrably strong record of college teaching experience. The position is to begin August 2020.
Duties: Teach three courses per semester in one or more of the areas of focus in the Professional Writing program: Creative Writing/Literature, Editing/Publishing, and Journalism. Advise and mentor students. Help foster and further develop industry relationships. Keep abreast of developments in the writing field so curriculum and the direction of the program remains relevant. Engage in program, division and college-wide service.
The Program Director manages the day-to-day administration of the program, and participates in a collaborative process with the Dean and program faculty to create, implement, and update a competitive vision and action plan for the continued success of the program. Areas of responsibility include: scheduling courses, recruiting, mentoring, collaborating with and evaluating adjunct faculty, conducting the yearly student learning outcomes assessment process, working with faculty on curriculum development, and managing program enrollment and retention. The Program Director position is a one-year renewable appointment.
Qualifications: A terminal degree in a relevant area is required. Ph.D desirable. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a record of effective college teaching, have experience in student mentoring and advising, and be a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive colleague. Industry experience and relevant higher education administrative experience are required.
