The Department of English at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a tenure-track position—rank commensurate with experience—in creative writing (poetry) to begin Fall 2020. The teaching load is 3-3 with assignments primarily in upper-division undergraduate and graduate creative writing courses.
Required qualifications include an MFA or PhD in creative writing in hand by August 2020; substantial publications, including at least one full-length book of poetry with a press of national standing and significant potential for continued publication of creative work, as well as other scholarly, professional, and/or creative activities; evidence of successful teaching experience at the college level, including the teaching of creative writing, and evidence of potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in creative writing; experience in editing and publishing; and a secondary emphasis in one or more of the following areas preferred: African American, Asian American, Latinx, Native American, or other ethnic literatures; LGBTQ+ literature/Queer studies; Disability studies.
