The successful colleague will demonstrate excellence in reflective and effective teaching and will offer a vision and commitment to the development of a dynamic undergraduate program. Teaching responsibilities include an 18-credit annual course load; classes will include fiction writing courses, composition courses, and occasionally lower division courses on literature by people of color and people with other marginalized identities, as determined by the department and the department’s needs. All members of the department contribute to and participate in student advising, reflective and effective teaching, department assessment and evaluation, academic citizenship, an active and well-defined research agenda, program development, and recruiting.

- Three-courses (3-credits/ea. each semester) teaching load to teach fiction and other genres of creative writing, lower division composition classes, and occasional opportunities to teach literature of underrepresented populations.
- Support the administration and coordination of our undergraduate Writing Concentration.
- Continued engagement with publishing and other creative and scholarly practices.
- Engagement in the life of the university as an academic citizen, including mentoring senior writing projects, committee service at both the department and university level, and – after the first year-undergraduate academic advising.
- Ph.D. in English or closely related field or ABDs considered with the expectation degree in hand by July 15, 2022 or MFA in Writing, with a specialty in fiction writing.
- Evidence of creative or scholarly achievement and the potential for future production.
- Evidence of superior teaching in both creative writing and composition, including the ability to respond effectively to the creative and academic needs of learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Evidence of classroom strategies and pedagogies that advance equity and inclusion.
- Ability or interest in advising student publications.
- Ability or interest in organizing visiting-writer events.
- Ability or interest in developing or teaching interdisciplinary seminars (such as Gonzaga’s University Core First-Year Seminars).
Demonstrate record of teaching and mentoring undergraduate students with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities.
