J. (Joe) Weintraub

J. Weintraub’s fiction, poetry, and essays have appeared in many literary journals--such as The Massachusetts Review, The New Criterion, Prairie Schooner, Cream City Review, and The Dark City-- as well as in regional and specialty publications such as The Chicago Reader, Modern Philology, and Gastronomica. Many of his pieces have been anthologized, and he has received awards for fiction and creative nonfiction from the Illinois Arts Council, the Barrington Arts Council, and Holy Names University. As a member of the Dramatists Guild, he has had one-act dramas and radio plays produced throughout the United States and in Australia, New Zealand, India, and Germany. As a translator he has introduced the Italian horror writer, Nicola Lombardi, to the English-speaking world (“Lovers of postwar narratives and surrealist horror won’t want to miss this.—Publishers Weekly), and in 2018 his annotated translation of Eugène Briffault’s Paris à table: 1846 was published by Oxford University Press ("This captivating edition, translated and edited by J. Weintraub, is decorated with witty black-and-white drawings . . .  and has copious, informative footnotes... A terrific storyteller . . . [Briffault] had a keen eye and an irreverent, often acerbic, sense of humor."--Wall Street Journal). He has a Ph.D in English Literature from The University of Chicago.
