Author's Bio

My books of poems are Words Before Dawn (LSU Press, 2012); Not Till We Are Lost (LSU Press, 2004) and Birds of Hoboken (Orchises Press, 1995, reprint 2003). My poems have appeared in Poetry, The Paris Review, The Georgia Review, TriQuarterly, Ninth Letter, The Southern Review, Shenandoah, Open City, Tin House, Poetry Daily; and other journals, anthologies, and websites. My critical essays on the craft of poetry have appeared in The Yale Review, Kenyon Review, and American Poetry Review. I have a Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia, and teach creative writing and modern poetry at Texas Tech University.
