The VONA/Voices Summer Workshops and Residencies was held from June 21 to June 27 and from June 28 to July 4 at the University of Miami at Coral Gables for poets, fiction writers, and nonfiction writers of color. The workshops offered workshops, seminars, readings, and time to write; the residencies offered one-on-one faculty consultations and group meetings with other residents. The faculty for the June 21 to June 27 session included poet Ruth Forman, fiction writers Junot Diaz and Marjorie Liu, and nonfiction writers Elmaz Abinadar and Staceyann Chin. The workshop faculty for the June 28 to July 4 session included poet Willie Perdomo, fiction writers Tananarive Due and M. Evelina Galang, and nonfiction writers Faith Adiele, Achy Obejas, and Andrew X Pham. The residency faculty included poets and fiction writers Chitra Divakaruni and David Mura. The cost of a workshop or residency was $800; on-campus lodging and meals were available for an additional $650. Limited financial aid was available. To apply for the workshops using the online submission system, writers submitted five to ten poems of no more than 20 pages or up to 20 pages of prose with a $25 application fee by March 15.
