The 2019 Writer’s Hotel NYC Writers Conference was held from June 5 to June 11 in New York City at the Bryant Park Hotel, the Roger Smith Hotel, the Library Hotel, the Casablanca Hotel, and the Algonquin Hotel. The conference featured workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as lectures on craft and publishing, readings, meetings with agents and editors, and walking tours of New York City. The faculty included poets Tina Chang, Cornelius Eady, Juan Felipe Herrera, and Alexandra Oliver; fiction writers Elyssa East, Jeffrey Ford, Elizabeth Hand, Shanna McNair, Rick Moody, Lewis Robinson, and Scott Wolven; and nonfiction writers Meghan Daum, Richard Hoffman, and Rob Spillman. Guest lecturers included editors Kevin Larimer (Poets & Writers) and Carey Salerno (Alice James Books), and agent Steven Salpeter (Curtis Brown). Conference attendees each received a pre-conference manuscript consultation with Shanna McNair and Scott Wolven, and had opportunities to read their work at venues around New York City. The cost of the conference was $3,000. Lodging and meals were not included. Using the online application system, writers submitted 15 pages of poetry or 5,000 words of prose and a brief bio with a $30 application fee by March 22. Space was limited.
