The Pele’s Fire Writing Retreat was held from February 28 to March 6 at the Kalani Oceanside Retreat, located on 120 acres of secluded rainforest in Pahoa, Hawaii. The retreat featured workshops for poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and hybrid-genre writers, evening readings, inspiration exercises, one-on-one manuscript consultations, time to write, as well as opportunities to explore the island. The faculty included hybrid writers Elena Georgiou and Rahna Reiko Rizzuto. The cost of the retreat, which included all meals and lodging, is $1,995 for a triple-occupancy cabin, $2,295 for a double-occupancy cabin, or $2,995 for a private cottage. Yoga classes and wellness opportunities including massage and reiki were available for additional fees. Using the online application system, writers submitted a writing sample of up to 15 pages of poetry or prose along with project description and a $20 application fee.
