The 16th annual Muse and the Marketplace Conference was held from May 5 to May 7 at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston. The conference, designed for fiction and creative nonfiction writers, featured craft classes, interactive discussions, and meetings with agents and editors. Participants included fiction and nonfiction writers Jabari Asim, Nathan Hill, Paul LaFarge, Paul Lisicky, Celeste Ng, Anita Shreve, Hannah Tinti, Lidia Yuknavitch, and Mitchell Zuckoff; agents Caroline Eisenmann (ICM Partners), Katherine Fausset (Curtis Brown), Mollie Glick (Creative Arts Agency), Robert Guinsler (Sterling Lord Literistic), and Anjali Singh (Pande Literary); and editors Emily Bell (Farrar, Straus and Giroux), Rakesh Satyal (Atria Books), Tracy Sherrod (Amistad), Liz Stein (MIRA), and Steve Woodward (Graywolf Press). The cost of the conference ranged from $295 for a single day to $500 for the full conference. For a one-on-one manuscript consultation with an agent or editor, writers submitted up to 20 pages of prose with a $195 registration fee by April 4. The general registration deadline was May 1.
