The 18th annual Muse and the Marketplace Conference was held from April 5 to April 7 at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston. Designed for fiction writers and creative nonfiction writers, the conference featured more than 130 craft classes, discussions, and meetings with agents and editors. The keynote speaker was poet and fiction and nonfiction writer Luís Alberto Urrea. Participants included writers Steve Almond, Jabari Asim, Christopher Castellani, Mira Jacob, Min Jin Lee, Rebecca Makkai, Celeste Ng, Daniel José Older, Neel Patel, Benjamin Percy, Lilliam Rivera, Maurice Carlos Ruffin, Whitney Scharer, Nafissa Thompson-Spires, and Laura van den Berg; agents Katherine Fausset (Curtis Brown), Ayesha Pande (Pande Literary), and Kent Wolf (Friedrich Agency); and editors Georgia Bodnar (Viking), Emi Ikkanda (Spiegel & Grau), Katie Raissian (Grove Atlantic), and Steve Woodward (Graywolf Press).
