Jan Steckel

Author's Bio

Jan Steckel is an Oakland, California writer, a former pediatrician, and a bisexual activist. Her poetry chapbook The Underwater Hospital (Zeitgeist Press, 2006) is available at http://www.zeitgeist-press.com. Her fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction have appeared in Scholastic Magazine, Yale Medicine, Bellevue Literary Review, Harrington Lesbian Literary Quarterly, Red Rock Review and elsewhere. Her work has won a number of awards and has been nominated twice for a Pushcart Prize. Her story "Mixing Tracks" won the 2008 Gertrude Press Fiction Chapbook Contest and will be coming out soon as a slender book from Gertrude Press. She works as a medical editor.
