The 16th annual James River Writers Conference was held from October 13 to October 14 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Virginia. The conference featured pitch sessions with agents and editors and panel discussions for poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers. The conference also offered pre-conference master classes on October 12 at the main branch of the Richmond Public Library. Participants included poets Tyree Daye and Pavana Reddy; fiction writers Xhenet Aliu and Mackenzi Lee; nonfiction writers David Coogan and Laurie Gwen Shapiro; literary agents Moe Ferrara (BookEnds Literary), Jessica Felleman (Foundry), Dara Kaye (Ross Yoon Agency), Chad Luibl (Janklow & Nesbit Associates), Beth Phelan (Gallt & Zacker Literary Agency), and Rebecca Scherer ( Jane Rotrosen Agency); and editor Latoya C. Smith (LCS Literary Services). The cost of the conference, which included some meals and a one-on-one meeting with an agent, was $335, or $195 for a single day. The cost of a master class was an additional $65. Discounts were available for students and James River Writers members. Registration was first come, first served.
