Born in Austria; raised in Austria, France, and the U.S.; degrees in English from Univ. of Pennsylvania, Cambridge University (King's College) and Harvard University Ph.D., 1972); published poetry during past five decades in a variety of literary and (mostly) little magazines; published five scholarly books and many scholarly articles as well as four autobiographical essays in academic journals;
