The 13th annual Eckerd College Writers’ Conference: Writers in Paradise was held from January 14 to January 21, 2017, at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. The conference featured lectures, panels, roundtable discussions, readings, and workshops in fiction and creative nonfiction. The faculty included poets Richard Blanco, Denise Duhamel, Major Jackson, and Peter Meinke; fiction writers Lan Samantha Chang, Andre Dubus III, Fabienne Josaphat, Laura Lippman, Stewart O’Nan, Les Standiford, Sterling Watson, and David Yoo; and creative nonfiction writers Ann Hood and Helen Wallace. The cost of the conference was $875, which does not include lodging or meals. Lodging was available at the nearby Magnuson Hotel for a discounted rate of $75 per night. Scholarships were available. Using the online application system, writers submitted a sample of 10 to 15 pages of poetry or up to 25 pages of prose and an artist statement with a $25 application fee by November 15.
