Author's Bio

Arthur Powers is from Illinois. He went to Brazil as a Peace Corps Volunteer in 1969 & lived most his adult life there. From 1985 to 1992, he & his wife served with the Franciscans in the Brazilian Amazon, organizing subsistence farmers in a region of violent land conflicts. He subsequently directed development programs in the Brazilian Northeast & served as General Counsel for Raytheon in the installation of an environmental monitoring system in the Brazilian Amazon. Currently the Powers live in Raleigh NC.
