The third annual All Write Now! Writers’ Conference was held on July 16 at the Southeast Missouri State University Campus in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Sponsored by the Heartland Writers Guild and the Southeast Missouri Writers’ Guild, the conference featured workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, panels, pitch sessions, one-on-one critiques with agents, editors, or publishers, as well as writing contests and book sales. Participating writers included poet and fiction writer David Armand; poet, fiction, and nonfiction writer Robert Yehling; fiction writers Dixon Hearne and Liz Schulte; and nonfiction writer Sue Bradford Edwards. Participating publishing professionals included agents Jill Marr (Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency) and John Rudolph (Dystel & Goderich Literary Management); and editor Tiffany Schofield (Five Star Publishing). The cost of the conference, which included workshops, snacks, pitch sessions, and a buffet lunch, was $75 before April 30 and $85 thereafter. Lodging was available at the nearby Pear Tree Inn for a discounted rate of $84.99 per night. The general registration deadline was June 27. One-on-one critiques with agents, editors, or publishers were available for an additional $35; Writers e-mailed up to 10 pages of a poetry or prose manuscript along with a one-page summary of their projects by June 25.
