Author's Bio

I grew up in Connecticut. I now live in Tucson, Arizona and Grand Manan, New Brunswick, Canada. A 2015 Guggenheim Fellow, formerly Director of the University of Arizona Poetry Center, I'm Agnese Nelms Haury Chair in Environment & Social Justice and Professor of Creative Writing at UA;affiliated faculty with the UA Institute of the Environment; Senior Fellow with the Spring Creek Project, Department of Philosophy, Oregon State University; on Board of Directors for; and a student of jazz piano. My most recent nonfiction book ZOOLOGIES: ON ANIMALS AND THE HUMAN SPIRIT was published by Milkweed Editions in 2014. A new book of poems STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN is out from Penguin in 2016, as well as a collaboration with photographer Stephen Strom: DEATH VALLEY: PAINTED LIGHT.
