The Algonkian Writer Conference–St. Augustine Author-Mentor Novel Workshop was held from February 25 to February 28 at the Bayfront Marin House Historic Inn in downtown St. Augustine, Florida. The retreat, designed for aspiring novelists working towards commercial publication, featured private consultations with authors and publishing professionals, small-group workshops, and pre-workshop readings and assignments. The faculty included fiction writer Robert Olen Butler; editors Brenden Deneen (Thomas Dunne Books, Macmillan Entertainment) and Lyssa Keusch (William Morrow); agent Paula Munier (Talcott Notch Literary); and author, agent, and editor Michael Neff. The cost of the retreat, which included private lodging in the Bayfront Marin House and most meals, was $2,750. The cost without lodging or meals was $1,789. Additional lodging options were availabe at area hotels and inns. Using the online registration manager, writers submitted a writing sample from a novel between 500 and 700 words along with a brief bio and novel synopsis.
