The 2018 Writing the Rockies Conference was held from July 18 to July 22 on the Western State Colorado University campus in Gunnison, Colorado. The conference featured workshops in poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and publishing, as well as lectures, manuscript consultations, panel discussions, and readings. The faculty includes poets Ned Balbo, Emily Grosholz, Julie Kane, David J. Rothman, Jane Satterfield, Jan Schreiber, Robert B. Shaw, D. H. Tracy, Frederick Turner, and James Matthew Wilson; fiction writers Candace Nadon, Michaela Roessner, Heather Sappenfield, and Rick Wilber; and nonfiction writers Paige Blankenbuehler, Brian Calvert, Karen Hausdoerffer, Kase Johnstun, and Patrick Pexton. Participating editors included Kevin J. Anderson (Kevin Anderson & Associates), Darrin Pratt (University Press of Colorado), Susan Delaney Spear (Think), and Mark Todd (Western Press Books). The cost of the conference was $300 until July 1 and $350 thereafter. An optional three-day workshop or critical seminar was available for an additional $200; manuscript consultations were available for an additional $150. On-campus meal plans were available for $125. Private lodging in campus dormitories was available for $300 for four nights and $350 for five nights; lodging was also available at area hotels, cabins, and inns.
