The 2018 Belize Writers’ Conference for fiction and creative nonfiction writers was held from April 23, 2018, to April 28, 2018, at a beachfront eco-lodge in Belize. The conference featured panels, workshops, master classes and critique sessions with agents, presentations by local experts on the history of Belize and the Maya, and daily yoga and meditation classes. The faculty included nonfiction writers Jane Anne Staw and Joey Garcia; and agents Carrie Howland (Empire Literary) and Kate Johnson (Wolf Literary Services). The cost of the conference, including lodging and all meals, ranged from $1,629 for a shared room with a shared bathroom, to $2,499 for a private seafront cabana with a private bathroom. Travel expenses were not included. To apply, writers submitted up to 1,500 words of prose with a $15 entry fee by March 15, 2018. Applications and payment received by November 1, 2017, were entered into a raffle to win prizes, including VIP membership in the Nonfiction Authors Association, a query letter critique with Jane Anne Straw, and a bag of Belizean gifts.
