Carol, based on the novel The Price of Salt (Coward-McCann, 1952) by Patricia Highsmith, premiered at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, where actress Rooney Mara tied for Best Actress. The film is directed by Todd Haynes with a screenplay by Phyllis Nagy.
The Danish Girl, a film adaptation of David Ebershoff's first novel, follows the story of married painters Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener, and Lili's journey as a transgender pioneer. The film is directed by Tom Hooper and stars Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander.
"I ain't afraid to die anymore. I done it already." The Revenant, based on Michael Punke's 2002 novel of the same name, follows one man's journey across the frozen American West to avenge the murder of his son. Directed by Academy Award-winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the film will be released in December 2015.
The newest film adaptation of William Faulkner's novel The Sound and the Fury, directed by James Franco, premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2014 and is currently in limited release and on video on demand. Franco previously directed a film adaptation of As I Lay Dying, another of Faulkner's novels, which was released in 2013.
The film adaptation of Emma Donoghue's award-winning novel Room (Little, Brown, 2010) will be released this fall. The film is directed by Lenny Abrahamson with a screenplay by Donoghue.
Based on David Lipsky’s book Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip with David Foster Wallace (Broadway Books, 2010), this forthcoming film follows Lipsky's five-day interview with David Foster Wallace just after the publication of his book Infinite Jest (Little, Brown, 1996). The film is directed by James Ponsoldt with a screenplay by Donald Margulies.

The film adaptation of Cheryl Strayed's memoir Wild (Knopf, 2012), with a screenplay by Nick Hornby, was released today. Reese Witherspoon served as a producer and plays Strayed in the story of her three-month hike and journey.
Author Gillian Flynn discusses the structure of her novel Gone Girl (Crown Publishing Group, 2012), and how it reflects the tug of war between a couple entwined in a troubled marriage. Flynn wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation released today.
