Michelle DRUMHELLER

I write fiction in both novel and short story. I tend to write fantasy and science fiction but I don't limit myself to that.

I've had my short stories published in magazines and in anthologies. I've also written several screenplays.

I've sat in critique groups for years and find the support and feedback valuable. That's why I'm interested in joining a group of dedicated writers. I've moved from Baltimore to Arizona to California in a short amount of time and miss the group I sat with a Baltimore which will meet in person soon. Since I'm not there I can't join them.

Online is great.  I can meet during the week or weekend and once a week to once a month. In-person works too if the group is within an hour or so from Moreno Valley, CA.

My creative writing career took a serious turn about three years ago when I took a much needed sabatical from teaching public education. I began writing everyday for the fun of it, and then slowly that evolved into a discipline. I began writing for an encouragement website; articles on healing, grief, community, etc. I founded both a Writer's Club for the local library where I work, as well as a Teen Writer's Club. I took part in a couple of creative writing workshops with other authors and have always learned so much from them! I have finished writing one novel and am in the throes of editing. I am also working on several different short stories in hopes of submitting them to contests or literary magazines for publication. Because I lead two different groups, I am looking for a writing group to be a part of collective of artists who workshop. I am a creative soul and use different mediums to express myself, however writing is my first love language. I also thrive in artistic community, and I yearn to learn from other writers. J.R.R. Tolkien is one of my favorite authors and the Inklings (a tight-knit group of writer's who met regularly to discuss ideas, plot routes, character developments, etc.-this group included C.S. Lewis by the way)  is a permanent goal for a writing community atmosphere. A group to bring work to the table and pick it apart for both content, structure and grammar.

I am a mother and teacher. I write because I always have, although I've never had the needed time to formally pursue it. The pandemic has forced me to take a year off to help my children with their school needs and created a little free time to get more serious about something I love.  Well placed words are such a beautiful thing.

Hi! I'm nuts for fairy tales and mythology, so I've been writing a lot of low/urban fantasy inspired by real-world folklore, but I do some other stuff here and there, too. I've wanted to be a writer since I was a kid, making up stories to lull myself to sleep at night. Recently, I got sick and tired of publishing a novel or short story "some day." So I chose to work part-time in order to spend more time writing, taking online classes, reading, and generally chasing my dream. I want to become a better writer (though I've already improved a lot!) and break into the professional writing world. I haven't been published yet, but my goal is to change that. (I find it easy to get overwhelmed at the prospect of sending in a manuscript.)

I flipped out when I heard this PW group database was a thing five minutes ago. It's perfect! I need other writers to read and comment on my work (not just my mom and my boyfriend...). I need encouragement and someone to nag me a little and someone to give some guidance. I'm also glad to offer all of the above. I consider myself a good editor/beta reader, and would like to edit professionally someday....but I need some experience first. (Let me practice on you!)

So...will you be my writing buddy? :)

Favorite books include, but are not limited to: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan, Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin, The Winter Witch by Paula Brackston, East by Edith Pattou, Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik, Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, and Artemis Fowl by Eion Colfer.

Doree

As we all did, we started out as readers and progressed to writing short stories or poetry of things that interest us. I did. I moved a lot as a child and writing was my only constant friend. A friend that took a backseat for a very long time once I graduated high school. I didn't reaquaint myself until a little dabbling in my fourties, nothing serious though. I have always been my worst critic and it therefore, my short stories and poems went nowhere. I'm retired now and my buddy and I are hanging out and enjoying the fruits of our relationship. For reals now. I started in Romance and became the Vice President in 2011 and followed as the President in 2012-13 for the Utahs Romance Writers of America group. Romance isn't my thing, I've decided and moved to the League of Utah Writers and SCBWI for my poems and Middle Grade adventures. They have also extended to Young Adult do to the age factors on my characters. I enjoy writing paranormal, ghosts with sass but no terror; Casper meets the Nutty Professor while being a proper pest to teenagers. My poems lean towards bullying, the golden rules, cleaning and family values, etc. I've been married for 45 years (to the same guy) and have a daughter who has gifted me with four wonderful grandchildren. My endless supply of humor. I've not found an agent or editor at this time, but not from lack of trying. And trying, I will continue, because I have stories worth reading. I enjoy spending time with like minded people. Brainstorming, or giving others the bat to knock an idea out of the park. When I get stuck, or need a direction, I love him, but my husband is a milk dud on the candy isle of words. Other writers are our go to's. So lets work together and keep on writing as I will too.

Another Truth Pixie

I am a graduate of the 2019 GrubStreet Writers Memoir Incubator, a nine-month program to produce a fully realized manuscript.  I have also recently been enrolled in a Catapult class to revise a novel-length manuscript.  I've been published in Ruminate, Windhover, and The Coil, among others, and have had residences at the Vermont Studio Center and the Elizabeth Bishop House.  For the past 12 years, I have taught argument at Boston University.  Besides writing, I race walk and bake bread.  I have a 20-year-old son, and I live alone--great for writing, challenging in a pandemic.

I've been in writing groups before and find that they work best when there is structure and predictability, along with rigor around craft.  I'm serious about my work, but also looking for the camaraderie that comes from artists with a shared sensibility.  I've written two book-length memoirs and two novels as well; at the moment I'm hoping to join a literary fiction group that meets at least once a month.

My name is Melanie, but I'd rather not use it in my writing profile.

I am a mother of three who has always enjoyed writing but now want to devote more time to it since two out three of my kids are out of the house.

I enjoy writing for young adults and am currently working on editing a fantasy novel I've written that takes place in ancient Persia. I'm currently searching for an appropriate literary agent/publisher.

I would love to find a group of people interested in writing in the following genre's - fiction, historical fiction, sci-fi, and fantasy - for young adults and adults.

Sonia Myers

Hey, hello, Sonia here. What's up?! I'm a quarter educator, quarter environmentalist, quarter writer and reader, and in between all those cracks of weathering, you'll find love. On the pro side, in 2019 I completed the Science and Environment Teacher Fellowship and was recognized as a standout leader in environmental and sustainable education through the One Planet Schools Challenge. I am a National Geographic certified educator and a 2021 Grosvenor Teacher Fellow through National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions. I also write fiction novels for middle readers to promote environmental literacy and sustainability through storytelling.

I am currently working on a middle grade fiction novel on plastics in the ocean, environmental justice, and getting loud.
