The IWC supports Indiana writers of all ages and backgrounds and reaches out to people whose voices are rarely heard. Classes and workshops taught by published writers provide writing education that encourages creative expression and enhances the communication skills necessary for success in school, in the workplace, and in life. We envision a thriving center where Indiana writers build the writing skills appropriate to their goals and experience the healing, empowering and joyful benefits that engaging in the creative process brings.

Programs, services, and venue selections reflect our commitment to this mission and to broadening our base as well. More than ever before, the Indiana Writers Center is forging new collaborative relationships with arts organizations, schools and universities, community organizations and social service providers.

I am retired and in my 70s. When I started writing in my teens, it was short sy-fi tales or poetry. Since retiring, I have re-ignited my interest in writing, but now I write historical fiction. The Chasseen Legends, a family saga in based in 4000BC, was my first attempt at a trilogy. Since there is no sex or gore, I was told my genre is YA Adventure books that are plot-driven, not character-driven. So here I am, starting another trilogy about a family saga in 1600s.

I have been writing seriously for about 2 years and submitted several pieces to various literary magazines.  Fingers crossed!  I began with children's stories, then gravitated to adult flash fiction and short stories.  Last fall, when I lost my mother to cancer, I wrote a couple of poems about death - "Cancer" and "Lying Awake".  These were also submitted and I'm waiting for a response.  

It's important to communicate with other writers in the same genre so that I can continually improve my work.  I spent over 30 years in the Healthcare industry so much of my writing was technical; I had little time for creativity.  After retiring, my desire to write struck me! 

My self-doubt takes over a bit too often so I look forward to getting feedback from other writers who are not family/friends that always love my work!  I would also enjoy being "fresh eyes" on the work of other writers as helping others succeed has been a goal in every endeavor of my entire life.

A retired editor, development writer and marketer, I've just published my first collection of short tales that tackle contemporary issues via classic, "fairy-tale" formats. My readers include young adults and more experienced readers, who enjoy the blend of seriousness and humor as well as the meta-tale surrounding the "crone" herself. I'm completing a follow-up book of tales in this hybrid style, as well as working on a contemporary mystery novel. I have a background in British Renaissance literature and have taught at the college level.

From my colleagues in a writing group, I hope to learn more about the current book publishing scene, how I might strengthen the appeal of my book(s) and tips for engaging more readers. Things certainly seem to be evolving rapidly in the book-publishing business right now, and I feel I need to catch up with all these new developments/opportunities!

I'm a college student that is working toward publication and though I'm currently pursuing a stem degree, I'm always being swept away by new characters, plots, and worlds. Right now there are definitely more books on my night stand than I can read in the next week and I keep spending money I don't have at the book store downtown, but I suppose those are problems a lot of us on this site have. My favorite genres to read and write are fantasy, young adult, new adult, and psychological thriller, though if something intrigues me about the author's voice, I'll read just about anything. I've turned to this site because I'm finally doing research about how to attempt a career in writing after moving out of my parents house for the first time and realizing how much I truly want to follow this path despite having taken the first steps toward it more than a decade ago. My goal here is to form some writing friends and get a sense of what might be going on in the writing community as a whole, maybe eventually to find some alpha/beta readers or be one for a fellow writer, though sending out my own work is still probably a couple years off. Since the pandemic, I have been a stay-at-home-mom of two boys ages 4 years old and 11 months old. I am currently enrolled as a student at the Univeristy of South Carolina working on a master's degree in library and information science for school librarianship. When I'm not working on school assignments, I'm working on an Filipina-American #OwnVoices YA novel. When I'm not reading or writing, I spend time with my children outside enjoying the beautiful South Carolina low country.

My writing experience consists of a BA in English with a concentration in creative writing, an MFA from Converse College, years of hosting workshops and critique groups, two published short stories, and a long-listed piece for the Voyage YA's international 1st chapter contest. 

I am looking for a writing group that consists of serious and supportive YA writers who are consistently writing, developing their craft, and are willing to discuss these topics with others. I would love to connect with other Asian-Americans working on #OwnVoices projects, as well as other writer mom's who can understand the highs and lows of writing with children. It would be a huge bonus if the writers were willing to workshop and critique each other. That's something I would love to be part of. 

Most of my writing has revolved around essays, periodical writings, scholarships, and grant writings. I enjoy those type of writings. However, I would really love to learn how to write to an audience on a more personal level with memoirs, literary fictions, historical fictions, and address youn adult issues through storytelling.
