Established in 1984, Politics and Prose is an independent bookstore and cafe in Washington D. C. that hosts regular author events, readings, and writing classes throughout the year.
Tattered Cover Book Store has grown over forty-three years into one of the premier bookstores in America, with four unique locations in the Denver Metro area (LoDo, Colfax, Littleton, and in Union Station). The stores are filled with antique furniture and lots of nooks and crannies for browsing and reading. Tattered Cover has decades of experience hosting authors, averaging nearly 500 writers, illustrators, celebrities and other special guests each year. We sell e-books, new and used books, bargain books, and rare collectible editions.
The Denver Woman’s Press Club (DWPC), founded in 1898, is one of the oldest women’s press clubs in the nation; members include professional journalists, novelists, magazine editors, essayists, freelance writers, poets, historians, and corporate and mass communications specialists. Their historic 1912 clubhouse on Denver’s Capitol Hill hosts a range of public programs, receptions, author readings and talks, and writing seminars throughout the year.
Counterpath is a publisher, gallery and event space, and bookstore. As a publisher, Counterpath was founded in 2006 and has published over sixty titles to date. Its gallery and event space, opened in late 2010 and hosts art, music, digital, film, and literary exhibitions, performances, and events. Its bookstore, part of the event space, carries titles published by small and independent presses.
The Denver Zine Library is a nonprofit organization founded in 2003 whose mission is to preserve, protect, and promote the culture of zines and self-published original work through archival collection, workshops, and a variety of events. It currently houses a preserved collection of over fifteen thousand independent and alternative zines. The organization is run by volunteers, and the public can access the library and archives during open hours.
Since 1995, the Denver Public Library Central branch has been the largest library between Los Angeles and Chicago. Central Library is located next to the Denver Art Museum and has its own art collection. Designed by postmodern architect Michael Graves, the library features a coffee shop and is home to several book clubs.
The Innisfree Poetry Bookstore & Cafe in Boulder on University Hill, was founded in 2010. As one of three exclusively-poetry bookstores in the United States, Innisfree hosts frequent poetry readings, open mic events, book club meetings, writer talks, school group events, and other literary events for the local community throughout the year.
Broadway Book Mall is an independent bookstore, run by the former owners of the Denver Book Mall, in its current location on South Broadway since 2009. The bookstore hosts frequent author talks and signings, literary readings, and other local community events throughout the year.
