Check Out the Human Library

In the current issue of Poets & Writers Magazine, Amanda Calderon reports on a unique storytelling project, the Human Library

"This past January the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County in upstate New York hosted an installment of the Human Library, adding to its existing collection fourteen 'human books,' as they're called -- members of the local community with uncommon stories to share, 'on loan' for the public to listen. The human books met with more than a hundred visitors, each of whom had signed up to listen to the storytellers in thirty-minute intervals."

Poets & Writers Live: Literary Agents

Credit: Stephanie Diani

On Saturday, June 21, spend the day in the company of other writers for our second Poets & Writers Live program. This day-long event will feature literary agents, editors, and authors engaged in conversation about how to sustain the writing life, the many reasons why we write, the author-agent relationship, and how agents and editors work together on behalf of writers. You'll also enjoy a featured reading by poet Frank Bidart and plenty of opportunities to compare notes with your fellow writers -- including a cocktail reception at the end of the day.
