New guy Can't Post

Hi everyone, I just now registered with this site. My name is Steve, I'm a 28 year old Texan, and I've been writing poems since I was 16. Jim Morrison is the man who inspired me to start writing. I've had a few pieces published, but it was with that scam site poetry.com, so I don't really count those. If you want to know anything else just ask me :)

Quick question: if I post any of my work here, would it be copyrighted for me? I only ask because I have a terrible fear of plagiarism.

Re: [ampo] New guy [In reply to] Can't Post

Welcome, Steve.

If you post you poems here, you will be in violation of local rules and customs. We discuss our work here, but don't post it. However, if you did post it, you would still own the copyright. You own the copyright to your work simply by "fixing it in a tangible form," as the copyright law says, and you cannot accidentally give it away. On the other hand, you would be using up the first publication rights, which most journals want in the poetry they publish. Posting here or in most places on the internet counts (to most, but not all journals-- check the guidelines) as publication.
