P&W Reading in Bryant Park - July 23

Join Poets & Writers in Bryant Park's historic outdoor Reading Room for an evening of poetry featuring Tyehimba Jess, Patricia Spears Jones, Joseph Legaspi, and Samantha Thornhill. July 23 at 7PM. Free.

Fellowship Deadline Extended

We are still accepting applications for our 2013-14 McCrindle Foundation Readings/Workshops Fellow. This part-time, paid fellowship with our Readings/Workshops (East) program provides an outstanding opportunity to learn about the nonprofit literary landscape and become familiar with a wide range of community-based programs that host writing workshops and readings for diverse populations.

 

Apply by July 15.

Upcoming NYC Literary Events

The boroughs are lush with readings and literary events, many of them free. Here's a sampling:

 

George Edward Tait reads at Reality House in Astoria, Queens on Thursday, July 12 at 4PM. 

 

Nance Van Winckel and April Lindner read in the Lunar Walk Poetry Series at the Two Moon Art House & Café in Park Slope, Brooklyn, on Sunday, July 14 at 4PM. Admission is $10 and gets you a free drink. Open Mic!

 

A Tribute to Marie Ponsot with Sapphire, Scott Hightower, Melody Compo, Jean Valentine, Alan Felsenthal, Lee Briccetti, Edward Hirsch, Jackson Taylor, Michael Broder, Richard Howard, Jamie Stern, and Rosemary Deen in Bryant Park, July 16 at 7PM. Free.   

 

The 15th Annual Harlem Book Fair on West 135th Street and Malcom X Boulevard. Saturday, July 20, 10AM to 6PM. Free.  Special event honoring poet Sonia Sanchez will take place on Friday, July 19, at the Schomburg Center. 

 

Third Annual NYC Poetry Festival on Governors Island, with Lara Glenum, Cornelius Eady, Dorothea Lasky, Catherine Wagner, CAConrad, Paul Legault, Todd Colby, Anne Waldman, Geoffrey Nutter, Andrew Durbin, Miguel Algarin, J. Hope Stein, Bob Holman, Cathy Park Hong, and many more. Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28, 11AM to 5PM. Free.

 

An evening of poetry, good times, and hard times, with Rio Cortez, Safia Jama, Cynthia Manick, and Alison Roh Park plus superfly host T'ai Freedom Ford at Cornelia Street Café, July 30 at 6PM. $8 includes drink.
