Poets & Writers' NYC Update
New York City Update
A Monthly Compendium of Information and Events
for Writers in the New York City Area

Funding for Events

Our Readings/Workshops program has paid writers fees for giving readings and leading writing workshops since 1970. Last year we distributed over $200,000 to 700+ writers, for events in New York, California, and eight cities outside those states.

In New York, our work is supported by the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Council on the Arts. We fund literary events in every county in New York State!

Published poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and performance poets are eligible for support. The application must be submitted by the organization presenting the event; however, we encourage writers to initiate events and let organizations know they can apply on their behalf.

Opportunities at Poets & Writers

We're accepting applications for our 2013-14 Galen Williams Fellowship Program. This program, designed to nurture future leaders in the field of non-profit literary organizations, offers an opportunity to work part-time in our NYC office for approximately ten months. We'll select three fellows--one each to work with our print editorial team, online editorial team, and Readings/Workshops (East). The application deadline is Monday, June 17.
