Hello. I am new and a little confused here. I joined because of a few reasons. I've always loved writing, but seem to never have time for it, I think that this site might encourage me to spend more time at my computer. Also I want to figure out how good I am, compare my works to others (So far I've only gotten to compare my work the that of great authors who have most probably left their mark on literature history.) Though the main reason, I think, I joined this site was because I felt the need to talk to other authors. See what writing is like for them. I may be young, but I think that I'm mature enough to talk to authors here. I've tried to talk to people at school, but, to be honest; they all seem pretty stupid, so now I'm testing this.
Still trying to figure things out and I'd love it if I got to know anyone.

Well, a lot of us are pretty stupid, too, but we've learned to cover it up. And some of us are pretty smart. Welcome!

OK, stupid may have not been the right word. I meant that their thoughts are shallow and they are not very educated. If people on this site are smart enough to find this site and be able to write something here, then I think that they are smarter than most of the kids in my school.
By the way, I'm into science fiction and I'd like to talk to other science fiction writers, get to know what it's like for them. How could I do that?

Welcome, Nero. You'll find the usual mix of personalities here on these forums, though we all tend to be serious about our writing, whatever genre we pursue. Poke around the various topics and find some that interest you or talk about what you're trying to do. If you don't find any, start your own and see who responds.
I know there are some other sites on the internet that are specifically focused on science fiction writing, and if you haven't already, you might consider exploring those as well.
But keep coming back and keep the conversation going. And keep writing!

Hello Nero. I'm glad to hear from someone who has wondered the same question as I have - is there anyone my age on here? Well, I'm 23 and I thought I was having a hard time finding people! Like you, I'm just checking things out. I write fiction myself. Good luck with your writing.

Hello Neal and Nero, you know it's not about age at all, and it's good to find younger people who are dedicated and serious about their writing, for that's what counts more than age. As one of the older writers here, I started later in life which put me in the same category as you at your age. We all have to start sometime at some point to begin our writing journey. And if your writing is filled with passion and you're open to suggestions and trying new things then dialogues with anyone at any age are possible, you don't have to limit yourself to those your age, they know about as much as you do. And you're not alone not finding your peers at school or friends to be interested or sympathetic to your writing trials and tribulations. Only other writers can understand what you go through so you need to build a community of writer friends to bounce off of. Taking workshops help. And like you, I hope to find others here of similar minds to become friendly with. In essence you are not alone and it's not an age thing. Best to you both and keep on writing! :)

Like the way you said that. I started late, too. That used to bother me, but not now. I just try to enjoy writing and learning new things about it instead of worrying about the late start. Works out much better that way. Welcome to the forum, also. It's nice to have you.
