The Dark Room Collective formed in 1988 with the mission to create a community for black writers. Its members have included Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner Natasha Trethewey, Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy K. Smith, and poets Major Jackson, Sharan Strange, Kevin Young, and many others. $1,000 POETRY PRIZE NAMED FOR MARGARET ATWOOD |
| Wattpad, a digital platform for writers and readers to share and discover new work, has announced the creation of an award named for author and literary icon Margaret Atwood. The $1,000 prize, for ten poems or a single poem, focuses on poetic form. Winners also receive feedback from Atwood and the chance to be a character in her next novel.
