Re: [writerle] login issues [In reply to] Can't Post

I just logged in with Firefox and can see my posts now. But the thread memory still doesn't seem to be working.

Yesterday I couldn't access any posts, but today things seem to be working again.

Once you're logged in, and you go to a specific thread and want to get back to the Main Page, as long as you only use your browser's back arrow to go back then it seems you don't lose anything. Avoid clicking on the links to go back to the different categories and you won't have to go through all the weird log out issues.

Re: [rh.gibson] login issues [In reply to] Can't Post

Not exactly a login issue, but when I came in just now I was told of two topics, three threads, that had new posts. I went to the two topics and saw the threads marked, but when I opened the first I was not taken to the new messages as usual. There were no messages marked as new (although there were new messages). Back to the menu for that topic, the other thread was marked as read. Similarly in the other topic, although just one thread there.

I've changed nothing in my setup since my last login.

Well, that seems to have been a transient phenomenon. Everything is back to normal now.

Re: [jason] login issues [In reply to] Can't Post

Sorry to pester you, but for the last week, whenever I come to the site I'm told to log in. When I do it takes me to a screen that has recent posts and a whole bunch of other stuff I've never used. I have to hit the connect with others button and then press the speakeasy button. However, once I entered a thread, if I get out of it I'm told I need to log in again.

Makes using the board less than optimal.

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Just adding my voice: I have also been having log in issues as well as memory issues -- both sporadic, but the memory issues have been off and on since the major change, months ago.

Oh, I've been having memory issues for years.

Nothing to do with the internet, though.

I just blew water through my nose and onto my keyboard reading that comment. If I need either a new keyboard or a new nose, I'm looking to you.

Using Safari, things seem fine now-- but I'm still having trouble when using IE9 (my preferred browser).

Swamp Thing I am having the exact same problem but you can avoid having to re-log in each time by only using your back button arrow on your browser for getting "out" of a thread. Seems that way the memory stays put and it's a lot less trouble.

Re: [rh.gibson] login issues [In reply to] Can't Post

I've been having login issues again. Yesterday, I couldn't log in at all. I would show up as logged in until I tried to enter the Speakeasy, and then it would automatically log me out.

Today, I seem to be logged in, but the thread memory isn't working at all. It shows that there are new posts in a thread, but when I click on the thread, I'm taken to the 1st page instead of to the new posts.

I spoke with our webmaster, Jason, who said that this can happen when Drupal's and the Speakeasy's session cookies get out of sync. Logging out and back in should fix it. Sorry for the problem. We're ever working on fine-tuning things on our end.

Logging out and then logging back in again does fix the problem, but I have to do it every time I go to the forum in order to get the thread memory to work. I can't stay logged in all the time anymore like I used to be able to.

Hmmm...sorry about that. I'll report this to our webmaster, and we'll try to figure out a fix. What kind of computer are you using and which web browser? Thanks!

Thanks, it seems that, at this point, the best solution is for you to log back in when you get kicked out of the system. Then you should be okay. Does that seem to work? Sorry for the inconvenience...

Re: [Mary Gannon] login issues [In reply to] Can't Post

This problem has started up for me again. . . when I am on Safari and I log in to the PW site, I get automatically logged out somehow the minute I go into the Speakeasy.

Everything is okay in Firefox, but I hate having had to download it just for this, and I hate switching browsers just to check the Speakeasy.

Did we ever figure this out? Logging out and logging back in doesn't work for me.

Thanks.

Re: [alamana] login issues [In reply to] Can't Post

With the versions of Safari I've tested (Windows: 5.1.7, OS X: 5.1.3), it's not really logging you out, it's just showing an old copy of the page that it stored when you were logged out. Unfortunately, by doing this it's violating Web standards, since the pages are properly tagged "no cache". It effects the rest of the site, as well, not just the Speakeasy (not to mention a huge portion of the Web).
Clicking "reload" should force it to show the page as it really is, reflecting your current logged in/logged out state and the read/unread status of the posts. It's not a great solution, but until Safari gets fixed it's the only one I have.
