introduction Can't Post

Hi. I'm JeanC (a slightly altered pseudonym). I am a Virginia Beach, Va. writer, poet, oral storyteller. Coming, as I did, from a long line of English teachers, writing was inevitable.
My father, an Irishman, could, in the best oral storytelling tradition, fill a room so dense with story that his eight children could not get a word in edgewise. That feat is a step more advanced than walking on water. If you'd ever met eight wild Irish children, you'd understand.
So: that I myself would write, was less a given, preempted, as I was, by my fathers silver-tongue. Nevertheless, I spent many evenings scratching in lined notebooks in a childish hand, dreaming of becoming a writer.
Here I am, years later, my brain thick with story and poem, my voice flooding the room on Open Mic nights. I am grateful that I was asked to sit on the advisory board of Hampton Roads Writers. As such, I had the privilege of being a story narrator during the 2010 HRW 2-day writers conference, held annually in Virginia Beach in September. Thank you, Lauran Strait.
I dance a regular weekly attendance at the local Virginia Writers Club, where I have produced a polished new work, each week, for three years, and offered it up for critique by fellow members. They are my supportive sister/brotherhood. My life is enriched by being part of a writing community. The arts are alive and thriving in Virginia Beach.
Please allow me to fill your room with story...

Short stories are my favorite medium. I also write fiction, poetry, memoir, children's lit., fantasy and sci-fi.

Howdy JeanC! Good to hear from a writer who recognizes she is first, and foremost, a teller of stories.
